Mataram is Lombok's capital city, located on the island's west coast. One of its key sites is Mayura, the royal floating palace and the former king's personal temple, which is still a pilgrimage site for the Hindu community. Visit Pura Meru, Lombok's largest Hindu temple, which is frequented by huge number of pilgrims during festivals. An insight into the everyday life of Lombok can be experienced at the Bertais market, where locals trade a wide array of natural produce, including spices, herbs, fruit and vegetables. Outside the city is Pura Lingsar, a large temple complex and the most sacred on Lombok, with places of worship for both Hindus and Muslims.
