Country Overview

Fagaras Castle, Brasov

Overview
Romania lies on the Black Sea coast of southeastern Europe. Best known perhaps for being home to Count Dracula, the country infact has a lot more to offer than fictive fame. Romania has an imposing landscape of forests, medieval churches, fortified Saxon churches, rural villages - all divided by the commanding Carpathian Mountains and Transylvanian Alps.

What to see

The capital, Bucharest, lies between Transylvania's Carpathian Mountains and the Black Sea. Once known as "Little Paris", it had entire neighbourhoods designed by French architects. Some of these gems are now slightly obscured by more drab post-Stalinist buildings, but nonetheless a Byzantine-style chapel is not too hard to come by.

When to go
The best times to visit are during the Spring months of April and May, and then again during the Autumn months of September and October. During these times you can avoid the extreme heat of the summer and the cold of the winter.

Great Experiences

Gura Humorului

Sighisoara

Sighisoara
The heart of 'Dracula Land', but also where you can see half-a-million brightly coloured old townhouses overlooking cobbled streets, the citadel church, the Orthodox cathedral and the fortress of 'Culture Palace'.

Sibiu

Sibiu
Discover Sibiu, a Saxon town that combines late Renaissance, early Gothic, classical and Transylvanian baroque architecture.
