Malta Tailor-Made Holidays

Country Overview

Malta

Overview
The Maltese archipelago lies at the centre of the Mediterranean and consists of three islands: Malta, Gozo and Comino. Malta, the largest island, features narrow meandering streets crowded with Renaissance cathedrals and Baroque palaces and has 7,000 years of intriguing history. Everywhere you go, a historic sight awaits such as the megalithic temples of Tarxien and Hagar Qim which, built between 3600 and 2500 BC, are the oldest freestanding stone structures in the world. Maltese cuisine reflects the islands’ multicultural heritage while the expansive beaches, lapped by the Mediterranean, are perfect for visitors seeking rest and relaxation.

What to see

The island of Malta is rich in archaeology, architecture and art and home to beautiful landscapes and a vibrant history. From its first inhabitants, who built colossal temples close to 7,000 years ago and the Knights of St John to the George Cross awarded to the island during World War 2, Malta has preserved all the traces of its extraordinary past.

When to go
The weather on the island of Malta is warm all year. July to September are the hottest months, yet the presence of cool sea breezes provide some welcome relief. Rain, when it does fall, is often in short, sharp spells and generally only in the winter months.
