Dubrovnik, described by Byron as "Pearl of the Adriatic", is undoubtedly one of the most alluring cities in the the Mediterranean. Walls surround the old town of Stari Grad with its baroque buildings, steep cobbled streets, monasteries and museums. The main pedestrian avenue, Placa, is a mixture of pretty little cafés, shops and restaurants. Beyond the city walls you will find numerous beautiful beaches and islands.
Split, Croatia's second city, has a large port sending ferries out to the Dalmatian islands. The city itself has an attractive old town where you can find the UNESCO site of Diocletian's Palace.
Hvar Island is yet another picturesque Croatian destination with its traffic free streets and beautifully ornamented buildings reminiscent of Venice, whilst the interior is a panoramic display of lavender fields, peaceful villages and pine-covered hills.
Zagreb has more to offer than simply being the political, cultural and economic capital of Croatia. Here you can find an impressive collection of museums and galleries.
