Croatia Tailor-Made Holidays

Country Overview

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Overview
Croatia stretches along the Adriatic coast, whilst sharing borders with Slovenia and Hungary to the north, Serbia to the east, Montenegro to the southeast and Bosnia & Herzegovina. The country's 1778km of coastline, Mediterranean climate and more than a thousand islands make it a popular European destination.

What to see

Dubrovnik, described by Byron as "Pearl of the Adriatic", is undoubtedly one of the most alluring cities in the the Mediterranean. Walls surround the old town of Stari Grad with its baroque buildings, steep cobbled streets, monasteries and museums. The main pedestrian avenue, Placa, is a mixture of pretty little cafés, shops and restaurants. Beyond the city walls you will find numerous beautiful beaches and islands.

When to go
The best time to visit Croatia is generally between April and September. As one of the main draws of Croatia is its coast, the winter period (especially from November to February) is the low season for tourism.

Great Experiences

Diocletian Palace

Split
Enjoy a coffee in the Diocletian Palace. Built in the 4th century for the Roman Emperor, its remains are mostly intact and are great to explore.

Dubrovnik

Walk the city walls of Dubrovnik
Heavily shelled during the troubles in the 1990's, a walk along the city walls, which offer excellent views of the Adriatic Sea, is a must for any visitor. Up to 20 foot thick and 80 foot high, you can grasp the difficulties any invaders would have encountered.

Plitvice Lakes

Explore the Plitvice Lakes
An interconnecting 16-lake National Park located close to the border of Bosnia-Herzegovina, the chain of lakes extends over 7km with various terraces, cascades and waterfalls.

Korcula

View the house of Marco Polo on the island of Korcula
The island of Korcula's most favourite son was the renowned explorer Marco Polo. The remains of his family house and its museum are located in the centre of this picturesque town.

Lavender, Hvar

Smell the lavender
During the summer months when it is in bloom, visitors to the island of Hvar are treated to field upon field of lavender.
