Volga Russian cruise with the Volga Dream - Moscow to the Caspian Sea

This 12 night cruise discovers traditional Russia, visiting places off the beaten track. Combining Russia's beautiful countryside, the famous city's of the Volga River like Volgograd and Kazan with the culturally rich capital of Moscow, this tour is a good way of exploring Soviet era towns with small picturesque villages.

Volga Dream is the most prestigious cruise vessel operating on the Russian waterways. The ship has just 56 superbly appointed guest cabins, each with air-conditioning, a flat screen TV, safe and a mini-bar. The ship is equipped with stylish teak deck furniture and a fitness centre with sauna. All cabins have outside views. Panoramic windows are in all cabins except on the Cabin Deck, which has portholes. Double beds are only available for Promenade and Sun decks. All meals are included on the cruise (breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner) with house wine, draft beer and soft drinks served with lunch and dinner.

Day 1 - To Moscow:  Fly from London Heathrow to Moscow with British Airways and transfer to the Volga Dream for 12 nights. (N)

Day 2 - Moscow:  Tour of Moscow, including Red Square, St Basil's Cathedral and the Metro followed by an afternoon visit to the Old Tretyakov Gallery, which houses the largest collection of Russian art in the world. . (B, L, D)

Day 3 - Moscow:  Morning visit to the Kremlin, Russia's apex of political power. The tour includes the Patriach's Palace, Cathedral Square and the Armoury Museum, which houses an opulent collection of treasures collected by the Russian state and church. (B, L, D)

Day 4 - To Uglich:  Walking tour of the city, including the Chapel of Dmitry and Church of Transfiguration. (B, L, D)

Day 5 - To Yaroslavl:  Explore the oldest city on the Volga and visit the Church of Elijah the Prophet, the Savior Transfiguration Monastery and the Church of Elijah the Prophet with its intricate frescos. (B, L, D)

Day 6 - To Nizhny Novgorod:  Formerly known as Gorky, this was a closed city to foreigners up until recent times. Visit the Kremlin and view Pechersky monastery. (B, L, D)

Day 7 - To Kazan: Explore Russia's third city and visit the Unesco World Heritage site of the Kremlin. (B, L, D)

Day 8 - To Samara:  Tour of Samara including visit to the Space museum. (B, L, D)

Day 9 - To Saratov: Morning city tour of Saratov including the Radishev State Art Museum, the first Russian picture gallery outside of Moscow and St Petersburg. (B, L, D)

Day 10 - To Volgograd:  Known for it's heroic defence against the Germany Army in 1942, visit the Stalingrad battle panorama museum and Mamayev Hill Memorial. (B, L, D)

Day 11 - To Astrakhan:  Full day cruising along the Volga. (B, L, D)

Day 12 - Astrakhan:  Morning city tour including visit to the Kremlin. Afternoon caviar tasting. (B, L, D)

Day 13 - To London: Morning transfer to the airport for a flight to London Heathrow via Moscow. (B)
