Berlin is home to some of the world’s most exciting museums. collections of paintings, sculpture and antiquities abound on Museum Island while the great Brandenburg Gate is a fitting entrance to the elegant 18th- and 19th-century architecture that lines the famous Unter den Linden. Potsdam is one of Germany’s most beautiful world heritage sites, with many palaces, gardens, and monuments to explore. the splendid palaces of charlottenburg and sanssouci are outstanding examples of baroque and rococo styles of architecture.

Day 1 – To Berlin: Fly from London to Berlin with British Airways. Take an orientation tour of the city visiting the New National Gallery and the Hamburger Bahnhof Museum. At the New National Gallery, a private meeting with the curator of the Modern Times exhibition has been arranged, with works from expressionism, dadaism, new sobriety, Bauhaus and surrealism. Transfer to the Hotel Angleterre for 4 nights. Evening welcome dinner. (D)

Day 2 – Berlin: Morning walking tour, including Unter den Linden and Gendarmenmarkt. Continue to the Pergamon Museum for a guided tour. This afternoon enjoy a special visit to the Neues Museum. Evening at leisure or you may choose to visit the Deutsche Guggenheim collection of contemporary art independently. (B)

Day 3 – Berlin: Panoramic city tour to see Checkpoint Charlie, the Berlin wall, the Jewish Museum, the Berlin air lift memorial and the Peter Fechter memorial. Continue to Gemäldegalerie, where you will meet a curator and see its unsurpassed collection of old masters. After some time at leisure for independent exploration of the Gemäldegalerie, continue on a walking tour of new Berlin to see Kultur Forum, Potsdamer Platz, the Holocaust memorial and the Brandenburg Gate. Day 4 – Potsdam: Drive to Potsdam to visit the enchanting palace of Sanssouci, built for Frederick the Great’s personal use and set among glorious parkland. Continue to Cecilienhof, the exotic half-timbered manor house created in the style of an English stately mansion and built for German Crown Prince William in 1913. It was here that the 1945 Treaty of Potsdam was signed. Evening farewell dinner. (B, D)

Day 5 – to London: This morning, visit the Emil Nolde Foundation. Drive to the Palace of Charlottenburg, city residence for the Prussian royal family. Visit the new wing, followed by a visit to the old wing and the Belvedere Pavilion. Continue to the airport for your British Airways flight to London Heathrow. (B)
