Today join the Island Roamer for your 6-night cruise around the islands
of Hadai Gwaii with each night spent anchored in a different secluded
bay. This area is home to one of the most culturally rich and developed
groups of people to inhabit early North America. Among the southern
islands are many ancient villages displaying the remains of the great
long houses and excellent examples of original totem poles. Daily
activities are included such as wildlife viewing, visits to ancient villages,
walks through old growth forest and kayaking trips along the coast.
While sailing you may see humpback whales, fin whales, porpoises, sea
lions and orcas. Highlights of the cruise include the totem poles at the
old Haida village of SGang Gwaay (Ninstints) and, if you are fortunate,
a sighting of the mighty Gwaii Haanas black bear as it forages along the
shore. You will also have an opportunity to listen to a Haida story and
learn the traditional Haida way of life. (B, L, D)
