Fly overnight from London to Tashkent with
Uzbekistan Airways. (N)
Early morning arrival in Tashkent. Transfer to the
City Palace (or similar) for 1 night. Afternoon
city tour of Tashkent, including the Kavoj and
Amir Timur monuments and the 16th century
Madrasa Kukeldash. This evening, attend the
celebrated Tashkent Navoy Opera or a concert
in the Tashkent Philharmonic Hall (programme
permitting). This evening, board the Orient Silk
Road Express and continue overnight through
the mountains to Shakhrisabz. (B, L, D)
Tour this thriving town, birthplace of Tamerlane,
the Turko-Mongol conqueror and founder of
the Timurid dynasty in Central Asia. Rejoin the
train and continue to Bukhara overnight. This
evening, sample some Uzbek wine during a wine
tasting experience on board the train. (B, L, D)
This morning arrive into Bukhara, in the middle
of the Kyzyl Kum desert. Full-day tour of
Bukhara and its numerous monuments dating
back to the golden age of the Great Silk Road.
The historic centre is a Unesco world heritage
site. Later, dine in a madrasa’s courtyard,
accompanied by local music and dancing,
before retiring to a centrally located hotel in
Bukhara. (B, L, D)
Full-day tour of Bukhara including a visit to the splendid Mir-e-Arab madrasa, the Samanid
mausoleum and the colossal Ark citadel, once
the seat of government of Bukhara’s former
rulers. This evening, meet the Imam of Bukhara.

On arrival in Khiva, enter the imposing city
walls and tour the Kalta Minor minaret, palaces,
mosques, mausoleums and Koran schools.

Following breakfast, arrive in Samarkand. Tour
the necropolis of Shah-e-zende, the excavation
sites of Afrosiab and the Registan Square.
Transfer to the Registan Palace (or similar) in

Tour the observatory of Ulug Beg, the ruins of
the Bibi Khanum mosque and the interior of the
palatial Gur Emir mausoleum, and watch local

Samarkand before the train departs for the
capital, Tashkent. Afternoon arrival in Tashkent
and transfer to City Palace (or similar)for 1

Travel in comfort aboard the Orient Silk Road Express train, which offers Ali Baba, Aladdin and Kalif
class cabins. An Ali Baba compartment provides sleeping space for two guests in two lower berths
and combined washing and toilet facilities are located at both ends of each car.The Aladdin class cabins are the same size as Ali Baba cabins but feature air conditioning (during
travel). The Kalif class are larger in size and include en suite bathroom facilities including a washing
basin, lavatory and shower, and are also attended by a special travel guide. The restaurant cars seat
all passengers in one sitting, serving excellent international and local cuisine. After dinner, these cars
offer a bar service for you to enjoy an after-dinner drink.
Asia Bukhara Hotel is located in the heart of the old city, within easy walking distance of the historical buildings and monuments of Old Bukhara. The hotel is constructed in the style of a traditional two-storey madrasa, with much of the furniture handmade by local craftsmen.

The Orient Silk Road Express private train allows its guests to explore the fascinating and ancient Silk Road in splendid comfort while enjoying the attentive service of the on board staff. A maximum of 140 guests may be accommodated in one of four categories of modern, air-conditioned sleeping carriages, as outlined below. The restaurant cars seat all passengers in one sitting, serving excellent international and local cuisine. After dinner, these cars offer a bar service for you to enjoy a late drink.
There is one experienced tour guide for a maximum of 25 guests, ensuring a personal touch and an informative tour throughout. An onboard doctor will be able to care for any immediate medical needs. Once aboard, your luggage remains on the train for the duration of the trip.
