Fly to Muscat. Transfer and stay for 1 night at the Al Bandar in a Deluxe room. (N)
Morning transfer to the marina to board your luxury catamaran. You will be taken through an introduction and safety briefing before a leisurely sail towards the Damaniyat islands. On the north side of the islands the deep clear waters are superb for diving while on the southern side the beautiful coral reefs are a magical place to snorkel. The waters' splendid visibility guarantees a kaleidoscope of colour as well as possible sightings of turtles. Stay overnight on board the catamaran. (B, D)
After breakfast, sail to the marina where you will be met by your guide and taken into the mountains to the town of Al Hamra, famous for its date plantations, and the ruined village of Tanuf. The drive will go through the gorge of Wadi Bani Awf with a stop en route at the picturesque mountain village of Bilad Sayt. Stay overnight at The View in the Al Hajar mountains near Al Hamra in a Superior room. (B, D)
Today visit the round tower fort of Nizwa and the adjacent New Souk, selling silver and Omani wares. Continue to Birkat Al Mauz, a pretty village where you can take a walk through the lush date plantations, and on to Sharqiya Sands, a vast mass of undulating red and white sand with dunes rising to over 650 feet (200 metres). Drive over the dunes and overnight at Desert Nights Camp in a Deluxe tented suite. (B, D)
Visit a bedouin home in the wilderness before continuing to the picturesque river valley of Wadi Bani Khalid, with its deep blue pools of water fringed by date palms. Continue to the fish jetty and dhow factory in Sur and visit the Sanseela fort. Check into Ras Al Jinz Scientific Centre for an overnight stay. This evening take a short walk to the beach escorted by an expert guide to watch turtles coming in to nest on the sands. (B)
Travel to Muscat. En route stops will be made at Fins beach, where you can take a swim; Bimah sinkhole, a spectacular limestone crater filled with bright blue and green water; and Wadi Arbayeen with its refreshing deep pools of water set among the date palms. Arrive in Muscat and stay 2 nights at the Al Bandar in a Deluxe room. (B)
Take a city tour of Muscat. Visits include the Grand Mosque*, the Bait Al Zubair museum and the Royal Opera House, the largest in the Middle East. Drive along the corniche to visit the fish souk and the colourful Muttrah souk, stopping at Al Alam Palace and the 16th-century forts of Mirani and Jalali for photo opportunities. (B)
