Hotel rating: Good Standard
The 3-star Sur Plaza Hotel is located in the picturesque town of Sur, which is known for its old fishing village and the traditional manufacture of dhows, and is 300km from Muscat. It is also close to the turtle beach at Ras-al-Hadd, Wadi Bani Khalid and Sharqiya Sands, some of Oman's major tourist attractions. The hotel's three-storey atrium lobby is a stained-glass masterpiece with scenes of the mountain regions, boats, date palms and fortresses of Sur. Accommodation is in 92 well-appointed guestrooms and three suites, each with pleasing decor, central air conditioning, a direct dial telephone, satellite television and minibar. Hotel facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, health club and gymnasium as well as a restaurant and three bars. The restaurant serves an excellent choice of cuisine, including continental, Oriental and Asian dishes from the buffet and a la carte menu. Captain's Bar is reminiscent of a traditional fisherman's pub with local artefacts adorning the walls and floor, while Sambouq Bar offers live entertainment, including Arabic singers and dancers. Al Shabaka cocktail bar has a charming atmosphere and Indian dancing as its live entertainment. From the resort, a visit to the turtle beach at Ras-al-Hadd is a must as it is one of the few remaining undisturbed green turtle nesting locations in the world. See the beach swarming with huge turtles or perhaps catch a glimpse of them hatching or laying eggs at night. The rich biodiversity of this beach also attracts many birds and dolphins and it is an ideal spot for snorkelling, fishing or sunbathing.
