Fly to Srinagar and transfer to the houseboats on Dal Lake for a 2-night stay. In the evening board a traditional shikara and take a gentle cruise on the Dal Lake. Explore narrow canals and waterways and pass floating gardens and remote villages. (B, L, D)
Morning visit to the exotic Mughal gardens of Srinagar, a complex of gardens designed with Persian influenced architecture. Highlights of the gardens include the 17th century Pari Mahal terrace, originally used to teach astrology and astronomy and Shalimar Bagh, the royal garden of Kashmir. (B, L, D)
Morning shikara cruise across Dal Lake to see the colourful floating markets where local villagers trade freshly-cut flowers and seasonal vegetables. The shikara is still the primary mode of transport for many locals. Later transfer for a 3-night stay at the Vivanta by Taj - Dal Srinagar. (B)
Take a morning heritage walk exploring Srinagar's prominent historical sites and architectural precincts. Highlights include the Hazratbal mosque, the 14th century Jama Masjid and the Pir Gastir Sahib. You will also get to visit the tomb of the mother of Zain-ul-Abidin, hidden away in the bazaar streets.
