Overnight flight London to Delhi, with Virgin Atlantic. (N)
Arrival in Delhi and transfer to the Eros Hotel, Nehru Place (or similar) for 2 nights. Afternoon tea at the Imperial Hotel with David Reid, a Delhi-based contributor to the Telegraph, followed by a tour of the hotel’s art treasures. (N)
Morning tour of Old Delhi, including Jama Masjid mosque and a walk through the lanes of Old Delhi bazaar. This afternoon, tour New Delhi including India Gate and the viceregal residence, both fine examples of British imperial architecture. Continue to the Qutab Minar Tower and the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun where the group will be joined by William Dalrymple for a welcoming introduction to India and its history. This morning take the train to Agra and transfer to The Gateway Hotel Fatehabad Road (or similar) for 2 nights. This afternoon, visit the tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah and Agra Fort. In the evening, watch the sunset over the Taj Mahal from the 400 year old Mehtab Bagh gardens. (B)

Morning drive to Fatehpur Sikri, the deserted 16th-century, red sandstone city built by Emperor Akbar as his capital and abandoned just 15 years later. Continue to Jaipur and stay at the Shahpura House, one of the leading heritage hotels in Jaipur (or similar) for 2 nights. (B)
Visit the ancient capital of Amber to see the fabulous Amber Fort. Enjoy a lavish lunch at 1135 AD; a restaurant set within the historic ramparts of the fort. This afternoon, take a tour of the royal city of Jaipur with a visit to the City Palace Museum. Your tour will include a visit to the private quarters of the palace. Later enjoy an arts and crafts tour of Jaipur’s colourful bazaars, including a visit to the Anokhi printing museum and the famous LMB sweet shop. (B,L)

This morning, relax amid the beautiful surrounds with panoramic views of the surrounding Aravalli Hills.
