On arrival at the ancient royal city of the Gaekwads, formerly known as Baroda, you will be driven to the world heritage site of Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, an ancient town full of ruins. You will also visit the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum, originally constructed as a school for the maharaja's children. Later today, witness a live folk performance typical of the region while enjoying high tea at the magnificent Laxmi Vilas Palace - the exquisite residence of the royal family. (B, L, D)
Today the train arrives in the port city of Bhavnagar where there will be an excursion to Palitana, famed for its spectacular cluster of Jain temples exquisitely carved in marble. (B, L, D)
The national park is mostly deciduous forest with rocky hills and deep valleys. An expert naturalist accompanies you into the national park, which is the last habitat in Asia for the Asiatic lion. Later, return to the train and proceed to Somnath. In the afternoon, visit the legendary Somnath Temple, plundered, destroyed and re-built several times, and regarded as one of the twelve most sacred shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. (B, L, D)
Enjoy a cross-desert safari across the Little Rann of Kutch, a saline wilderness which is home to the wild ass as well as a multitude of water birds. Visit some of the local settlements and villages, renowned for their traditional embroideries and weaving. (B, L, D)
Early this morning the train will arrive in Modhera, known for its sun temple, which dates from the 11th century, and the Rani ki Vav stepwell, one of the finest examples of subterranean architecture for water management. Continue to Patola House, where traditional Patola sarees are made. Overnight journey to Nashik. (B, L, D)
This morning, arrive in the holy city of Nasik, one of the four locations to hold the Kumbh Mela festival and an important pilgrimage site for many Hindus. This morning, visit the fascinating Buddhist Pandav Lena caves that date back to second century BC. Continue to the Grover Zampa vineyards to enjoy a wine tour, followed by lunch before returning to the train. (B, L, D)

The train operator has made every effort to ensure that the train travels between cities and towns during early mornings and late evenings, allowing guests to see the beautiful and diverse scenery as the train cuts across the Indian countryside; however, on certain days there are overnight journeys to cover the vast distances while on other days some overnight travel is essential to follow the schedule as per the requirements of the Indian Railways.
When on board the train, all transfers and excursions are operated as a group with other passengers who may or may not be Cox & Kings clients.
The Deccan Odyssey train comprises 12 air-conditioned deluxe saloons. Guests are accommodated in fully air-conditioned, spacious and comfortably furnished carriages, each carriage featuring four twin- / double-bed cabins complete with modern en suite facilities. The cabins are furnished with essential modern conveniences including a flat-screen television and a telephone.
