This morning, board the Golden Eagle Danube Express for the 8-night journey through Sicily
and Italy. Stop in the hilltop town of Caltagirone, renowned for producing beautiful pottery
since the 10th century, and visit a local ceramic workshop. Continue to Villa Romana del
Casale, one of the best-preserved Roman villas in the world, to discover more about the
Roman civilisation that once ruled the island. This evening, dine at the Michelin-starred
restaurant, Al Fogher. Overnight on board the train. (B, L, D)
Morning at leisure on board the train as you travel through the Sicilian landscape, followed
by time to explore the characterful squares and churches of Catania at your own pace.
Afterwards, take part in a hands-on Sicilian pastry cooking class at the Società Storica
Catanese. Enjoy your creation alongside a tasting of local liquors before returning to the

Take a boat tour around the island of Ortygia, the historical centre of the city of Syracuse,
before returning to the train for lunch as you journey to Ragusa. Take a brief walking tour of
the old town of Ragusa and visit a local chocolatier before some time at leisure to explore

After breakfast on board the train, explore Sicily’s flamboyant capital, Palermo, or take a
transfer to the small town of Corleone to learn about the notorious Mafia families made
famous by Francis Ford Coppola's film, The Godfather. Return to the train for dinner before
crossing over to mainland Italy via one of the very few rail ferries in the world. Overnight on

This morning the train will journey up to Salerno to explore the stunning Amalfi coast. On
arrival in Salerno, take a cruise along the bay to the town of Amalfi. Enjoy either a walking
tour of the town or visit a lemon grove to learn about the distinctive citrus fruit grown across
the south of Italy. Transfer by coach along the Amalfi coast to Naples where you will rejoin
the train and continue on to Rome. Overnight on board the train. (B, L, D)
Enjoy an introductory tour of Rome by golf buggy, including the Villa Borghese and its
gardens, panoramic views from the Pincio Terrace and stops at the Trevi Fountain, the
Pantheon and Piazza Navona before a break for a light lunch. This afternoon, explore the city
at leisure or continue with the group to see more of the Vatican and St Peter’s Basilica.
Dinner this evening will be served on board the train as you travel to Tuscany. (B, L, D)
Tour the medieval town of San Gimignano and its many towers, followed by a tasting of the
world-renowned Chianti red wine that originates from this region of Italy. Afternoon at
leisure to explore the hilltop city of Siena where the train stops overnight. Enjoy a locally
hosted dinner. Overnight on board the train. (B, L, D)
This morning the train will make the short journey to the Renaissance city of Florence for a
panoramic tour of the city’s best-known sights. Take to the water to see Florence’s worldrenowned
bridges including the Ponte Vecchio, an arched bridge that still has shops along it.
Enjoy lunch with views over the city before time at leisure to further explore. Return to the
train for the final journey north towards Venice. Dinner and overnight on board. (B, L, D)
On arrival in Venice, you will be taken to the Hotel Danieli, a luxurious waterfront property,
for 1 night. Take a walking tour around the highlights of this romantic city or spend the day
exploring at your own pace; perhaps take a gondola ride along the canals or soak up the
