as tortellini and lasagne. Bologna is home
to the oldest university in the western
world while Ravenna was once the capital
of the western Roman empire. There are
many beautiful cities including Modena,
Parma and Ferrara, as well as ancient
Etruscan sites and monuments scattered
throughout the region.

Visit the historic town of Cremona,
recognised by Unesco for its traditional violin
craftsmanship. Visit a lute workshop and listen
to a short recital. After some time at leisure for
lunch, enjoy a tasting of delicious Parma ham
before continuing to the Casa Barezzi museum
in Busseto, once the home of the celebrated
opera composer, Giuseppe Verdi. The museum
provides an intriguing insight into Verdi’s life. (B)
Full-day tour of the university city of Parma and
its beautiful array of architecture. Visit the city’s
baroque theatre, the first with a proscenium arch,
and the Romanesque cathedral and baptistery,
filled with exquisite Renaissance art. (B)
Morning drive to Mantova to see highlights such
as Palazzo Te, an excellent example of mannerist
architecture; the Bibiena theatre, designed in
the late baroque and early rococo style; and
the frescoed rooms in the enormous Ducal
Palace, seat of the Gonzaga family. Continue
to Sabbioneta for a walking tour of the town.
Visit the Teatro all’Antica, the second-oldest Renaissance theatre in the world. Transfer to
Reggio Emilia and stay at the Albergo La Posta
hotel (or similar) for 1 night. (B)

Continue to Modena in the afternoon to see the
old town and cathedral, followed by a visit to
the Ferrari Museum in Maranello with interactive
