Morning drive south from Rome to the Amalfi coast. Stay at the Hotel Astoria for 4 nights in the picturesque coastal town of Vico Equense on the Bay of Naples. Afternoon visit to the town of Sorrento with its picturesque historic centre and sweeping cliff top views. (B)
Today, travel along the scenic coastal road to Positano. Once a small fi shing village, this town is now an exclusive resort. Your visit will include a tasting of the southern Italian lemon liqueur, limoncello. Continue to the town of Amalfi, one of the most powerful maritime republics during the Renaissance. Visit the Arabic-Norman Sant’Andrea cathedral. (B)
Drive from Vico Equense to Ravello via the Monti Lattari mountain range, with a stop en route at a wine estate for a tasting. The hilltop village of Ravello is known for its stunning villas and terraced gardens. The 13th-century Villa Rufolo and the Villa Cimbrone with its spectacular belvedere, known as La Terrazza dell'Infinito, are particularly beautiful. Return to your hotel via the scenic coastal road. Morning drive to Pompeii, the Roman city buried under ash during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD. Considered the most important archaeological site in Europe, Pompeii offers a rich insight into daily Roman life. Visits include the basilica and the amphitheatre, built to seat up to 20,000 spectators. At the end of your tour, continue to Naples airport and fly to London. (B)
