Maratea's La Locanda Delle Donne Monache dates from 1735, when its original use was as a monastery. That pared-down aesthetic is reflected in the quirky character displayed in each of its 27 rooms and suites, which take great advantage of the natural light flowing through the property. Of the rooms, La Vicaria features an en suite with a bath carved from the rock, while La Badessa benefits from exceptional views of the historical town centre. All rooms include a bath with shower, direct telephone line, television, air conditioning and 24-hour room service. Il Sacello, the hotel's restaurant, features untreated stone walls, for that truly rural feel, and views over the garden and swimming pool. It serves a mix of fish-based dishes and traditional regional fare from the Basilicata coast.
