Explore the paradise discovered by
artists in the south of France at the
beginning of the 20th century with
expert art historians Gerald Deslandes or
Lydia Bauman. Visit Matisse's celebrated
Chapelle du Rosaire and the Fondation
Maeght, which contains a stunning
collection of artwork by Braque, Miro and
Giacometti. Take in more museums, each

Chagall, Leger and Picasso. Along the
way, soak up the glamorous atmosphere
of the French Riviera, passing through
the picturesque resorts of Nice and
Antibes as well as the medieval walled
village of Vence.

This morning tour the Matisse Museum to
discover the artist’s works created during his
own stay in Nice. Afternoon visit to the Chapelle
du Rosaire de Vence, where Matisse combined
architecture, paintings, objects and stained
glass in one of his most important and spiritual
works. After a brief stop in Saint Paul de Vence,
continue to Fondation Maeght, which, like
Matisse’s chapel, contains a synthesis of art and
Drive along the coast to Le Cannet and tour
the Musée Bonnard, a monument to the
artist’s enduring response to the warmth and
informality of life in the region. After some time
at leisure in Antibes, visit the Musée Picasso,
which is set in the imposing former stronghold
of the Grimaldis. It contains some of his most
important works from the 1930s onwards. Nearby is the Musée Leger, a unique collection of
paintings, sculpture and ceramics demonstrating
his debt to Cubism and Futurism and his
development of a robust and colourful art, which
embraced both the purism of classicism and the
dynamism of the machine. (B)
Morning visit to the Chagall Museum, which
contains more than 400 of the artist’s works,
including 12 large paintings illustrating the
Old Testament books of Genesis and Exodus.
