Morning drive to Odense via Roskilde to visit the Viking ship museum which contains a magnificent collection of Viking long ships followed by an afternoon visit to the Cathedral, the traditional burial place of Danish monarchs. Continue via Egeskov castle, which is considered to be one of Denmark's finest palaces to the town of Odense, the home city of Hans Christian Andersen. Morning drive to the village of Jelling, which is known as the spiritual heart of the country due to the large rune stones which are located here. These document the history of the country and its conversion to Christianity. Continue to Arhus with its excellent Viking museum and the Den Gamle By, where old city houses from all of Denmark have been reconstructed can be visited (entrance included). Drive to Hillerod with possible stops at Frederiksberg Castle (entrance included, a Renaissance Palace which is the museum of National History and Fredensborg Palace, the Spring and Autumn residence of the Royal family. Stay at the Hillerod Hotel (or similar) for 1 night. (B)
Morning drive to Copenhagen. We suggest driving via Kronborg castle, which was the setting of Hamlet, or the modern-art museum of Louisiana which was the home of the author, Karen Blixen. Stay 1 night at the First Hotel Vesterbro (or similar). (B)
