Fly to San José direct with British Airways. Transfer to the Costa Rica Marriott Hotel for 1 night. (N)
Fly to Puerto Jimenez in the Osa Peninsula. Transfer to El Remanso Lodge or Lapa Ríos*, set in a private nature reserve where the Pacific Ocean meets the Golfo Dulce. Stay for 3 nights. (B, D)
Take local excursions into the pristine rainforest to spot rare wildlife. This magnificent and remote peninsula has an incredible concentration of flora and fauna including the 70-metre high ceiba tree, howler and spider monkeys, scarlet macaws and more than 350 other bird species (B, L, D)
Fly to San José and transfer to Arenal. Stay for 2 nights at the Arenal Nayara Hotel & Gardens overlooking the volcano. Full day tour to Caño Negro, with a boat trip on the Rio Frio. The area is home to an impressive number of endangered migratory birds, as well as monkey, sloth, caiman and turtle. (B, L) (B)
Travel by boat and overland to the biological reserve of Monteverde and stay at Fonda Vela. Alternatively stay at El Silencio Lodge & Spa on a private cloud forest reserve. Explore the cloud forest for amazing birdlife. (B)
Continue to the Nicoya peninsula to relax at the luxurious Punta Islita. (B)
Transfer by road (5 hours) to San Jose to board your flight to the UK, arriving the following day. (B)
