Stay 2 nights at The Rees Hotel, located on the
edge of Lake Wakatipu. Following day at leisure. (N)
Collect your car hire and drive south along the
first stretch of the Southern Scenic Route to Te
Anau at the edge of Fiordland National Park.
Overnight at Dock Bay Lodge. (N)
Drive to Manapouri and board the Fiordland
Navigator. Overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound.
Drive south from Manapouri to Invercargill on the
south coast. Look out for Hector’s dolphins at Te
Waewae Bay and visit Te Hikoi Southern Journey
Heritage Museum in Riverton en route. Spend
one night at Beersheba, a bed and breakfast set
in woodlands outside Invercargill. The port of
Bluff, 28km south of Invercargill, is the terminal
for ferries to Stewart Island. Please speak to
your consultant if you would like to extend your

Drive east along the scenic coastal road through
the Catlins, with podocarp forests, lakes and
waterfalls providing worthwhile stops. Visit the
designated viewing platforms and hides at
Roaring Bay and Curio Bay, where you have a
good chance of spotting yellow-eyed penguins
(hoiho). Stay in a self-contained studio room at
Curio Bay Boutique Accommodation overlooking
the beach at Porpoise Bay. (B)
Drive to Dunedin on the east coast and stay at
the Fletcher Lodge for 1 night. The following day,
drop off your car at the airport and fly home, or
continue your holiday in New Zealand by exploring
the Otago peninsula. (N), (B)
