Hotel rating: Superior
Kasaka River Lodge is located on the banks of the Zambezi river in the Chiawa Game Management area, only 4km by road from the Lower Zambezi National Park. This is the only stretch on the 2,700 kilometre course of the Zambezi river where national parks are to be found on both banks of the river: the Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia and the famed Mana Pools World Heritage Site in Zimbabwe. The river extends the length of the property and there are breathtaking views over the water with frequent sightings of buffaloes, elephants, hippos and crocodiles. The camp offers an authentic bush experience in a tranquil destination, well off the beaten track.
Kasaka has two wings to the camp: a cultivated 'tame' side with manicured gardens with a swimming pool and colourful indigenous plants; and a 'wild' side is set in a more natural bush environment and is connected to the lodge by overhead wooden walk ways which allow for the passage of wildlife underneath and within the camp. Kasaka's main living area and bar are nestled among the tamarind trees creating the perfect location to sit and watch the world go by on the river
Classic Tents (8)
The tents are spacious walk-in canvas safari tents with two single beds or one double bed. The tents are set on a raised platform and hang from a thatched roof ensuring coolness during the heat of the day. Tastefully decorated with an authentic African flavour, the tents have a shaded veranda to enjoy the sights and sounds of the river. There are 4 tents on the 'wild' side and 4 tents on the 'tame' side.
Wild Mango honeymoon suite
The honeymoon tent is set at the end of the wild side and affords maximum privacy whilst offering the same facilities as the classic tents.
The tent features an open deck high above the river, offering a stunning 270-degree panorama of the Zambezi river and Nyamangwe Island.
There is a sumptuous four-poster double bed and a romantic natural stone open-air bath.
This is the luxury family home, ideal for families or small groups wanting an exclusive and private safari experience. The Pod is totally private and comes with a private guide and activities. Timings of the day, from wake up to meal times and wildlife viewing, are totally flexible. The Pod offers two large canvas bedrooms with a lounge connecting them. Each bedroom features large en suites with bath and shower. Furthermore the lounge can convert to provide extra sleeping space for younger children if needed. Hippo Pod has its own swimming pool and large shaded deck with comfortable sofas and sun loungers. With its own outside dining area and fire pit, guests can enjoy private dining overlooking the Zambezi river. Guests staying at Hippo Pod are also more than welcome to enjoy the main facilities of the lodge including the bar area, viewing deck, swimming pool and dining area.
Guests at Kasaka River Lodge can enjoy communal dining in a variety of different locations, each with spectacular views of the Zambezi river. Experienced chefs prepare a wide variety of delicious meals using fresh and locally sourced ingredients. Guests staying at Hippo Pod have the option of dining privately at times to suit or are more than welcome to join guests for meals at the main camp.
The park is a short 15-minute drive from the camp. Wildife viewing can be done from a vehicle in either the Lower Zambezi National Park or the Chiawa Partnership Park or, if you prefer, from a boat on the Zambezi. Canoeing, walking and, of course, fishing, are also offered. And for those interested in the rich cultural heritage of the area, community visits can be arranged.
