Arrive into Cape Town where you will be met at the door of your aircraft and taken to pick up your hire car. Drive to the Newlands suburb of Cape Town and stay 3 nights at the Vineyard Hotel (Deluxe mountain-view room), a historic property set in lush gardens which used to be the home of Lady Anne Barnard. Day at leisure. We suggest wine tasting in one of the many wine estates just outside the town, taking walks in the nearby nature reserves and visiting the nearby towns of Franschhoek and Paarl. During whale watching season (July to November), a visit to the seaside town of Hermanus is recommended. (B)
Morning and afternoon at leisure. Drive to Cape Town airport and drop off your hire car. Fly to Johannesburg and transfer to Marataba Safari Lodge (tented suite) in the Marakele National Park where you will stay for 3 nights. Each suite has its own private deck overlooking the sweeping plains and meandering river below. All of the large wildlife species, from elephants and rhinos to the big cats, as well as an amazing variety of birds (including the largest colony of endangered Cape vultures in the world, with more than 800 breeding pairs) have settled here.
