South Africa holidays
Commence with a short tour of Oudsthoorn, known as the ostrich capital of the world, before you proceed to the Cango Caves further north. This underground wonder of the Klein Karoo area of South Africa is situated in a limestone ridge parallel to the well-known Wartburg mountains. Inside the caves are some of the finest dripstone caverns, with vast halls and towering formations. After the caves, visit the Cango Wildlife Ranch, home to cheetahs, lemurs, crocodiles and servals, amongst others. Here you can learn about endangered species and successful breeding programmes. The centre also allows you to interact with hand-reared cheetahs and get actively involved in saving this species and others from extinction. Continue to the Safari Ostrich Farm to see one of the world's most peculiar birds. Enjoy a tour of the farm, a traditional ostrich lunch (payable locally) and perhaps even an ostrich race. This excursion can also be taken from Knysna or Plettenberg Bay, driving through the scenic ‘Outeniqua pass’.
