With seven members in the team, there were always going to be some disappointed faces when the draw was made for the exclusive tickets Cox & Kings had been offered to the VIP preview evening of PINTA – The Modern & Contemporary Latin America Art Show.

PINTA offers visitors the chance to discover the best of contemporary and modern Latin American art and showcases a range of works by established and emerging Latin American artists. The lucky winners Richard & Sarah share their thoughts on the exhibition and the pieces on display.

Richard:
There were so many outstanding pieces of artwork to see. Some of the exhibits were a bit too modern for my tastes but there were some excellent abstract pieces that reminded of similar works I have seen in Lima and Mexico City. I was fascinated by Carlos Zuniga’s – Portrait II – ‘Ink on Argentine phone book’. This was of a human face that had been ‘created’ by the artist blacking out various names from pages of a phone book to create the image. The time this must have taken was incredible and the final result looked amazing.

Sarah:
It was interesting to see how Latin America is represented in the modern art world and not what I was expecting at all. Each Latin American country had a distinct character. The gallery was bustling with beautiful and stylish people from all over Latin America and a lot of the art had political references. The one that I found interesting was “The Bulletproof Series” by Milagros de la Torre. It was a collection of photographs taken in the archives at the Palace of Justice in Lima. The photos are of evidence from various crimes such as robberies: an ordinary photo of a jacket turns out to be a bulletproof jacket that was worn by a criminal.

Last night’s tickets were provided courtesy of Branding Latin America The event is running at Earls Court Exhibition Centre from 6th to 9th June. Tickets cost £15.
