Discover Jordan garden RHS Flower Show
The Discover Jordan garden at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Hampton Court Flower Show, which the Jordan Tourist Board sponsored in partnership with Cox & Kings, has not only been awarded a coveted gold medal, but also the Best World Garden.
The garden features plants native to Jordan and has two distinct areas: elements of Petra are shown with the sandstone pillars, ruins, tunnel on one side; and the rocky landscape of the Jordan Valley on the other. The plants tell the story of Bedouin medicine, whilst the rock formations refer to the fascinating geology of the country. Forward-looking Jordan is represented by the sculpture of Mona Saudi – Jordan’s most famous sculptor – at the heart of the garden by the Islamic rill, which signifies the uniqueness and importance of water to Jordan.
Visitors to the garden yesterday included HRH the Countess of Wessex, who following a holiday to Jordan recently was particularly interested in the design and flowers, HRH Princess Alexandra and Elizabeth Banks, the current president of the RHS and BBC presenters Rachel de Thame and Joe Swift.
Paul Hervey-Brookes, who designed the garden, will be leading Cox & Kings’ Botanical Tour of Jordan in April 2013. Please email a Jordan expert for more information at email@example.com.
