Travel in Focus Winter 2015
There are four categories in the Compass photography competition – people, wildlife, places and quirky. The winning and runner-up images are all below – be sure to comment on your favourite one, or enter the competition next time for your chance to win.
This month our winners receive a £50 John Lewis voucher with the runners-up receiving the photography book Wild Coast by Marianne Taylor.

Winner – Rajasthani women by Patrick Hanrahan
Rajasthani women in typically colorful dress at the start of a procession during the Hindu festival of Gangaur.
Runner up – Flamenco dancer by Alan Jones
A flamenco dancer taken in a main square of Cordoba, Spain in May 2014. The concert, of some intensity, was staged to coincide with the “Patios” event in the city.
Winner – Malachite Sunbird by Alan Jones
Malachite Sunbird on a Protea flower. Taken in November 2014 in the countryside near Walker Bay in the Western Cape province of South Africa.
Runner up – Mexico Rose by Jennifer Rose
Lizard, Tulum, Mexico taken by Jennifer Rose on September 16th 2014. Hundreds of lizards of all sizes relax in the sun on the stones of Mayan temple ruins on the Yucatan peninsula.
Winner – The Good Shepherd by Arvin Tucker
Taken in North India, on the outskirts of Chandigarh, Punjab. “[I]… saw the shepherd and his cattle returning back after a hard day at work, so thought how each and every one of us looks forward returning back to the warmth of home…”
Runner up – Venice by Petula Collier
This is, very simply, Venice after the rain.
Winner – Come fly! by Vivienna Davies
A hot air balloon flight is the ideal way to experience the dream-like landscapes of Cappadocia. Taken 6th May 2015, Cappadocia, Turkey
Runner up – Mural in Delhi by Patrick Hanrahan
New Delhi, March 2015 – This stunning mural caught my eye in a city center side road. It was only after gazing at it for some time that I spotted several stray street dogs asleep nearby.
