Day 2 Jerash & Ajlun: Morning visit to the remarkably preserved Roman site of Jerash then continue to Ajlun to visit the Crusader period castle built in 1184 by Amir 'Izz al-Din Usama. (B, D)
Day 3 Desert Castles: Morning transfer to Qasr Azraq, noted as the winter headquarters of T.E.Lawrence in 1917. Continue to Qasr Amra, the site of some beautiful Umayyed frescoes and Qasr Kharana with its well preserved walls. Return to Amman. Late afternoon at leisure. (B, D)
Day 4 To Aqaba: Morning drive to Wadi Rum for a 4 x 4 jeep ride exploring the desert valley with its magnificent sandstone cliffs and coloured desert floor. Continue to Aqaba and visit Aqaba fort, now a museum. Overnight at the Movenpick Resort. (B)
Day 5 To Petra: Afternoon drive to Petra and visit Little Petra, a small atmospheric taste of the main site. Stay for 2 nights at the Marriott Hotel Petra. (B, D)
Day 6 Petra: Today there will be a guided tour of Petra, the "rose-red" city rediscovered by J.L. Burckhardt in 1812. Enter the city through the Siq canyon, which opens out in front of the dramatic Treasury tomb, and continue through the atmospheric ruins of a lost civilisation. Optional evening excursion to see Petra by Candlelight. (B, D)
Day 7 To Amman via Kerak & Shobak: Transfer to Amman along the King's Way, stopping en route to visit the 12th century Crusader castles of Shobak and Kerak. Overnight at the Marriott Hotel Amman. (B, D)
