Linking memories of the British East India Company and the Raj with sacred sites, ancient temples and stunning monuments, this journey offers a fascinating odyssey through Indian history. Travelling across the plain of the holy Ganges river, highlights include the elegant architecture of Lucknow, spiritual Varanasi, and the iconic Taj Mahal. For those with more time to spend in India, this itinerary makes an ideal post tour extension to a visit to Rajasthan.
Day 1 Calcutta: Full day tour of Calcutta, including a cruise on the River Hoogly. Stay for 1 night at The Oberoi Grand.
Day 2 To Lucknow: Fly to Lucknow, a city noted for its exceptional Mughal architecture. Stay 2 nights at the Taj Residency.
Day 3 Lucknow: During the Indian Mutiny, Lucknow was the site of some of the fiercest fighting. Today’s tour includes a visit to “The Residency,” centre of the 1857 siege.
Day 4 To Varanasi: Morning train to Varanasi, the holy city of Hinduism. Stay 2 nights at the Taj Ganges Hotel.
Day 5 Varanasi: Early morning boat ride on the sacred River Ganges.
Day 6 To Khajuraho: Afternoon flight to Khajuraho. Stay 2 nights at the Taj Chandela Hotel.
Day 7 Khajuraho: Morning visit to the Chandela temples famed for their exquisite carvings and erotic sculptures.
Day 8 To Orchha: Drive to the village of Orchha. Stay at the Orchha Resort for 1 night. Afternoon visit to the riverside temples and medieval fort palace complex.
Day 9 To Agra: Train to Agra. Stay 2 nights at the Taj View Hotel.
Day 10 Agra: Early morning visit to the Taj Mahal.

Day 6 To Rangpur: Drive via Kantanagar terracotta temple to Rangpur. Stay at Rangpur PBC for 1 night.
Day 7 To Srimangal: Transfer to Saidpur airport for a short flight to Dhaka. Drive east into the tea estates surrounding Srimangal. Stay for 2 nights at Srimangal Tea Resort.
Day 9 Srimangal: Explore the Lowacherra rainforest and visit a tea estate and a tea factory.
Day 10 To Dhaka: Drive to Dhaka.
