Ukraine is a little known country, yet it is full of wonders: Gothic, Byzantine and Baroque architecture and art; exquisite mosaics; hidden monasteries and picturesque mountain villages. After a stay in elegant Kiev, this private journey visits the Crimea to discover Byzantine cave cities, Greek ruins, Russian and Tartar palaces, Genoese castles and Soviet Battleships.
Day 1 To Kiev: Morning flight with British Airways from London Heathrow to Kiev. Transfer to Hotel Dnipro for 2 nights. (N)
Day 2 Kiev: Morning city tour of Kiev. Afternoon visit to the 11th century Kievo Pecherskaya Lavra (Caves Monastery). (B)
Day 3 To Yalta: Morning at leisure. Afternoon flight from Kiev to Simferopol and transfer to the Oreanda Hotel in Yalta for a 5 night stay. (B)
Day 4 Yalta: Morning excursion to Alupka Palace. In the afternoon visit Livadia Palace, Tsar Nikolai II’s summer residence built in 1911. (B)
Day 5 Sevastopol: Today will be spent visiting Sevatopol, the former Russian naval port that was closed to tourists until 1996. (B)
Day 6 Nikita & Massandra: This morning visit the Nikitsky Botanical Gardens and Massandra Palace, the French Chateau style former summer residence of Russian royalty. Afternoon is at leisure. (B)
Day 7 Bakhchisaray: Today visit Bakhchisaray, a small country town that was once the eminent capital of the Crimean khanate, home of the Crimean Tartars. (B)
Day 8 To London: Morning transfer to Simferopol to fly to London via Kiev. (B)

Day 1 To Vilnius: Morning flight from London Heathrow to Vilnius, via Prague with CSA Czech Airlines. Transfer to the Hotel Ramada Vilnius for 2 nights. Short walking tour of Vilnius Old Town with its cobbled alleys, 18th century town houses and Baroque churches. (N)
Day 2 Vilnius: Morning tour of Vilnius including Cathedral Square, The Gate of Dawn, St Casimir’s Church, the Holy Spirit Church, the University, Jewish Museum and Gediminas Tower. Afternoon visit to the picturesque 14th century Trakai Castle. (B)
Day 3 To Riga: Morning visit to Kaunas. After visiting the Old Town with its ancient castle and cathedral, continue through the Lithuanian countryside toward Riga. En route visit the Hill of Crosses, a place of national pilgrimage. Stay 2 nights at the Monika Hotel. (B)
Day 4 Riga: Morning tour of Riga, the Baltic’s largest and perhaps most beautiful city. The city’s rich history has left a legacy of fine architecture, including many remarkable examples of Art Nouveau. Visits include the Romanesque Dome Cathedral, the Castle, St Peter’s Church and the House of Blackheads. Afternoon at leisure. (B)
Day 5 To Tallinn: Take a leisurely journey to Tallinn, with a cable car visit en route to the 13th century ruins of Sigulda Castle. Continue to Tallinn and stay 3 nights at the Hotel Domina City. (B)
Day 6 Tallinn: Morning walking tour of Tallinn, one of northern Europe’s best preserved medieval towns. Founded at the beginning of the 13th century, Tallinn has been influenced by periods of Danish, German, Swedish and Russian control. Sights include the Gothic town hall and square, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and Toompea Castle, seat of Estonia’s parliament. Afternoon visit to Kadriorg Palace and Park, designed for Peter the Great. Day 7 Tallinn: Day at leisure or optional tour to Lahemaa National Park, a habitat for lynx, wolf and brown bear as well as rare migratory birds. (B)
Day 8 To London: Morning at leisure. Early afternoon transfer to the airport. Fly to London Heathrow, via Prague with CSA Czech Airlines. (B)
